The keyboard shortcut works much better, and the buttons on the switch itself make me feel like I'm in the 21st century finally.I have had it freeze on me a couple of times, and had to shut down everything. After using a 2-computer switch for years, I thought I'd try some newer technology and go to a switch for 4 computers. Maybe if I read the instructions this can be gotten around too. I'm very happy with the results. With my old switch I often had to change the refresh rate on my laptop when I switched to it to get rid of the flicker, which was something I just lived with. With this unit, I have an old laptop, old desktop, a new laptop and a newer desptop, and they all work without any extra effort. It's still worth it, to be able to seamlessly switch back and forth between systems, which I do probably 50 or more times a day. The price, very affordable, includes 4 cables so there are no hidden surprises.I prefer not to use the sound part, so I can play music directly from one system, no problem there.
Even thou this switch isn't the best looking or the most convenient KVM, it does work. A better design would be to stack all the ports in the rear. I'd rather have an ugly switch that works than a pretty one that doesn't.
This unit has been unreliable in a mixed Windows environment. Using XP(ok), Vita and Win 7, with laptop and desktops. Will work with all connected one time then not the next. VGA is the problem- audio works consistently across the units connected.
Registered. I set this up on an old PC and a laptop. (I have a monitor adapter). Great. Great.I'll have to call tomorrow but this does not bode well for customer support. Well, I couldn't get the KVM switch to work although it is supposed to work with an iMac.
However, I could not complete the request for help because the webpage wanted additional personal information, but it would not let me type the information it wanted into the web form. It worked OK.Then I decided I would like to use it with my iMac serving the monitor function. Tried to fill in a help desk ticket so I could get written instructions on how to do it. I am running winxp and snow leopard on the imac.So I went to [.]. This version of the KVM switch was not listed on the website. Therefore it would not let me ask for help.
I am not up to a long phone session tonight.I am fast losing confidence in Trendnet.
I have used many KVM brands over the years. If you have ever been in a position the your time was critical and then your KVM software switch does not switch, you know what I mean. The only problem I have found with the Trendnet is the MTBF seems to be around 24 months. Trendnet has been the most reliable of the brands the use a software(keyboard)switch. When using a keyboard switch on ANY KVM product you should consider using a KVM with a mechanical switch as a alternate backup. However may sample size is really to small to tell (8). That being said the failure seems to be limited to the audio channel switching.
